When the blood pressure reading was taken in home it is somewhere between normal and slightly high. But when it is taken at doctor’s clinic it reads very high. One of my client was saying about the difference in her spouse’s blood pressure reading.

My client wondered if her husband was suffering from stress about seeing the doctor and that was perhaps raising his blood pressure. While her husband did not think he was particularly nervous about seeing his doctor, he did admit it could be playing a role subconciously.

This kind of problem is called white coat syndrome

In doctor’s office or even in office settings a person’s blood pressure may rise. Even though it shows normal at home. 10 to 20 percent of adult population is affected by this.

Sometimes, though, medical personnel take incorrect readings. This is generally from using a blood pressure cuff that is to small and results in a high blood pressure read.

Now the question that needed an answer is Is this syndrome pose a health risk? And the answer is yes. The risk may be smaller than chronic high blood pressure, but it is larger than normal.

It is not an issue when the blood pressure increases only when visiting doctors clinic and only for a few minutes. But if a person experience this problem many times a day then it may lead to chronic high blood pressure. The very important thing that everybody should know when is the blood pressure increasing and how long each time it tend to happens.

Even when people are not suffering from white coat syndrome some people think they are suffering from it.

All of us would like to get problems from an annoying condition rather than a very serious health problem like chronic hypertension.
